How much does a web site cost?

There are quite a few factors that are going to affect the ultimate cost of your web site. These factors include how many pages you are going to have, if you will sell products on your website, the graphic work involved, and how interactive your future web site will be. You will also need web hosting and domain name registration.

Do I need to hire a "local" web site designer?

We create web sites for clients who are local and based throughout the UK. By using the Internet, email and the telephone, it is possible to communicate effectively with clients in any location.

How long does it take to have a web site designed?

The time frame is determined by the size of your web site, the complexity of your site design, and our current client design schedule.

What is a URL?

It stands for "universal resource locator". This is the address typed in to view your web page on the Internet. For example, you would type in http://www.lxrwebdesign.co.uk to access our home page.

What is a domain name?

A domain name is a specific web site address that you choose and register with Network Solutions (the official registrar of domain names ending in .co.uk, .com, .edu, and .gov). Our domain name is " lxrwebdesign.co.uk".

What is web hosting?

Web hosting is a monthly fee that you pay to have your site accessible on the Internet.

What is site maintenance?

Maintenance is a fee paid monthly to keep your site updated with new content that you provide. Most good web sites have new content updated regularly. Fresh content is what will keep your visitors coming back.

Why can't I find my web site in the search engines?

Once your site has been submitted to the top Search Engines they may require several weeks, or even months to actually spider and list your web site in their directory. How fast your site is listed depends on each individual Search Engines database update schedule. Watch your server traffic logs for visiting spiders.

Web Site Content - What do I put on my site?

That would depend on the goals of your web site. If you run a business website you would include as much information about your products or services that your customers would need to purchase from you.

Please provide us with a step-by-step overview of a web site project.

  1. Following contact via the form on our site we will call you to discuss your project within 24 hours
  2. Following this discussion we will then call you and provide you with a quotation
  3. We will then visit you at your premises to discuss the project further and collect copies of images and company literature
  4. One week later we will present to you a working 'story board' of the site, at this fluid stage we can incorporate any changes you feel necessary. Should you be happy for us to continue on your project the signing of the contract will now take place and we will ask you for a 50% deposit
  5. We would aim to have a relatively small site (obviously this will be dependant upon the size and complexity of the site) for inspection approximately 3 weeks later. At this meeting we would then discuss any minor revisions to your site and only when you are completely happy will we then be paid the final 50% installment. The site will then be uploaded to the server and made operational
  6. For the following seven days we will ask you to completely check over your site, during this time we will be prepared to make any reasonable minor adjustments without further charge. Following this period any further modifications will be charged for
  7. You will now sign off your site and as part of our fee we will now submit it to the major search engines
